What's not in it

Four things that aren't in the tin.

No water.Nothing to evaporate, and nothing that needs a preservative to survive. Preservatives are one of the most common things people react to after fragrance.
No petrolatum, paraffin or mineral oil.It slows water loss while it sits there. Skin can't use any of it to build with. Wipe it off and you're back where you started.

The mechanism

The water is already in there. It's leaving.

Skin holds water in with fat packed between the cells. Hot showers, soap and wind take that fat with them. Then it leaks.

Yes, even there

Built for the most sensitive skin on the body first.

Lips, knuckles, heels, external intimate skin, skin fresh off a retinoid.

That skin is thinner and has fewer oil glands of its own. It loses water faster and reacts to more. Build for that and the elbows look after themselves.

Before you ask.

Will it feel greasy?
Not if you use less than you think. Scrape a fingernail's worth, warm it between your fingers for three seconds, press it in. Cold and thick, any balm sits on the surface waiting to be rubbed off. Warm and thin, this one sinks in and settles to a soft matte.
How is it different from petroleum jelly or a paw paw ointment?
Those form a film on top that slows water loss while it's there. Useful, and that's the whole job. Skin can't use petroleum to build with, so nothing changes underneath. This puts back the fats skin makes for itself, which means it's working while it's on and after it's gone.
Why is there no water in it?
Water evaporates within the hour, and it has to be preserved or it grows things. Taking it out takes the preservative system with it, the emulsifiers holding oil and water together, and most of what people react to. What's left is fifteen ingredients doing work.
What's bakuchiol, and is it like retinol?
It behaves like retinol without being related to it. Not a vitamin A derivative, and it doesn't convert to one on your skin. Published work has compared the two for the look of firmness and evenness, without the peeling. Ours sits at 0.5%, the concentration that work used. It's the only percentage we publish.
Will it sting?
There's no fragrance, no essential oil load, no alcohol and no preservative system, which covers the four things that most commonly sting compromised skin. It was built for sensitive external skin first, and everything else came after.
Will it clog my pores?
We don't make a non-comedogenic claim, because we haven't run the testing that would justify one. What we can tell you is what's in it. Jojoba, squalane and MCT are light, fast-absorbing lipids, and there's no petroleum or heavy mineral oil in the tin.
Can I use it on my face?
Yes. Face, hands, lips, cuticles, heels, dry patches, post-shave. Use less on the face than you would on your hands. It works under makeup once it's settled.
Can I use it on reactive or sensitised skin?
It's made for skin under pressure. Fragrance-free and anhydrous, which removes the usual triggers. On broken, weeping or infected skin, see a professional instead of reaching for a balm.
Is it suitable for kids?
For ages two and up, used sparingly on intact external skin. Under two, the honest answer is that the data is limited. One low-level ingredient hasn't been studied long-term in very young skin, so we hold the guidance there rather than guess. For persistent or broken rashes, see a professional.
Pregnant or breastfeeding?
