NOOKS Everywhere Barrier Balm hero image

An unpopular opinion about dry skin

You might not need more moisture.

Keeping it is the bit nobody sells you.

The skincare industry has spent years teaching us how to add hydration.

Serums. Creams. Gels. Another layer of hyaluronic acid.

And still, tight by lunch.

The Everywhere Balm is a waterless barrier balm made to help skin hold onto the moisture it already has.

Meet your new barrier balm

No water. No petroleum. One very useful tin.

01 / The hydration obsession

Dry skin.Here's another moisturiser.

01There's a serum for hydration.
02A cream for hydration.
03An overnight mask for the hydration you apparently missed during the day.
04And another serum to go underneath all three.

The beauty industry is very good at selling us ways to add water to our skin.

To be fair, plenty of them work. Hyaluronic acid and glycerin are humectants: they draw water into the outer layer of skin and hold it there. Useful work. A well-made moisturiser can hydrate and soften beautifully.

Nobody mentions where all that water goes afterwards.

02 / The bit everyone keeps skipping

Your skin is a bucket with a slow leak.

Everyone sells the jug.

The outer layer of your skin is cells held together by lipids, the oily mortar between the bricks. That mortar is what keeps moisture in.

Some water escapes all day, every day. It's called transepidermal water loss, or TEWL. Unnecessarily complicated name. Very familiar feeling.

When the mortar runs thin, more of it gets out.

Transepidermal water loss · water leaving through thin mortar
  • Skin that feels tight.
  • Dry patches that keep coming back.
  • Roughness. Flaking.
  • The cream that feels lovely for twenty minutes, then clocks off.

Sometimes the missing step is helping your skin hold onto what it already has.

03 / The self-inflicted plot twist

We strip our skin. Then buy products to apologise to it.

We cleanse until we squeak.

Exfoliate until we gleam.

Use actives until something tingles.

Wash our hands thirty times a day.

Take showers hot enough to reconsider our life choices.

Then wonder why our skin feels tight, cranky and permanently thirsty.

Here's the unglamorous bit. Harsh cleansing can strip the skin's natural surface oils. Over-exfoliating can disrupt the outer barrier. Hot water, cold air, wind and low humidity all make dryness more likely. And a barrier under that much pressure tends to lose water faster and react more easily.

Keep washing your face. Please.

Your skin just shouldn't have to recover from your skincare routine every night.

  • Maybe less stripping.
  • Maybe fewer steps.
  • Definitely a little more respect for the barrier.

Very rude of us. Also very common.

04 / A better question

Ask your shelf a better question.

How much of it actually stays.

Hydration matters. Retention is a separate job.

Humectants

Humectants pull water in.

Emollients

Emollients soften and smooth.

Occlusives

Occlusives slow water escaping from the surface.

A good routine can use all three.

The trouble starts when hydration becomes the entire conversation.

If your skin keeps asking for comfort, another watery layer may only answer half the question.

05 / The other half, in a tin

Barrier care.Not skincare.

Meet The Everywhere Balm.

Tattooed hands holding the open tin, the balm surface visible

A concentrated, waterless barrier balm made from oils, butters, waxes and selected botanicals.

It softens skin, helps reduce water loss and supports the skin's own barrier function.

  • No water.
  • No petroleum.
  • No added fragrance.

Fifteen ingredients, all there to help skin under pressure feel more comfortable.

Think of it as a lipid top-up.

And because barrier care shouldn't feel like you've basted yourself for the oven, she melts into a silky, soft-matte finish.

60 mL · $39.95 · 30-day money-back guarantee

06 / Three jobs, one routine

Hydration is useful.Retention is the plot.

Hydration The water-loving part.

Humectants like glycerin and hyaluronic acid draw water into the outer layer of skin. Very useful, especially when skin feels parched.

Softening The comfort part.

Emollients help rough, dry skin feel smoother, more flexible and more comfortable.

Retention The don't-let-it-all-escape part.

Lipid-rich and occlusive ingredients sit on the surface and slow water evaporating from skin.

The NOOKS approach

The Everywhere Balm lives on the lipid-rich side of the equation. She softens, cushions and helps hold moisture in.

Keep your hydrating products. She has a different job.

Hydrate if you need to. Then hold onto it.

07 / Let's talk about water

Your moisturiser contains water. That's not the scandal.

Water-based skincare is fine. Some of the best moisturisers in the world are mostly water, with excellent humectants, emollients and moisture-holding ingredients built in.

Leaving water out is simply another way to build a formula.

The Everywhere Balm skips the water phase and starts with the lipids. The result is a concentrated balm where every fingertip is the softening, holding part.

None of this makes water-based products inferior.

We made a waterless balm because we wanted a very particular kind of barrier balm. Concentrated. Multi-use. Soft-matte. Extremely fussy about what goes in.

08 / The part that surprises people

All those lipids, and somehow no greasy theatrics.

A waterless balm sounds heavy.

We know.

You picture something thick that sits on your face, glues your fringe to your forehead and announces itself to the room.

The Everywhere Balm has other plans.

  • She melts on contact.
  • Spreads easily.
  • Settles into a silky, soft-matte finish.
  • Good under makeup.
  • Good after shaving.
  • Good on dry patches.
  • Good on lips, hands, cuticles and anywhere that rubs.

Barrier care with surprisingly good manners.

09 / The tin

Fifteen ingredients.Every one has a job.

Soften MCT. Jojoba. Squalane.

For slip, suppleness and softness.

Hold Beeswax. Shea butter.

A soft, lipid-rich layer that helps reduce water loss.

Comfort Calendula-infused sunflower oil. Marshmallow root. Plantain. Helichrysum. Bisabolol.

Chosen to condition skin and keep the formula kind to skin under pressure.

A little extra Vitamin E. Manuka oil. Monolaurin. Bakuchiol.

Vitamin E helps keep the oils fresh. Bakuchiol, at 0.5%, is plant-derived and sits outside the retinoid family.

No water · No petroleum · No added fragrance

Says very little. Does quite a lot.

I thought the redness/rosacea on my face was just what my skin would be like now that I’m older. This balm got rid of the redness as soon as I started using it. I have A LOT of skincare products and although the product interested me, I hesitated to purchase as I wasn’t convinced I needed it. AI chat told me the formulation was good, but nothing special. I am so happy that I took a chance and ordered anyway. THE WHOLE IS DEFINITELY GREATER THAN THE SUM OF ITS PARTS. It is just so good. It really does does sink right in. It immediately soothed and protected - my face (including my eye area), hands/cuticles, dry elbows… every day I’m extending to use it on new areas because it’s so effective. I rarely write reviews but I’m so happy I found this product and I want others to feel confident to give it a try.

Nook’s Everywhere Balm is a great replacement for pretty much any balm I use. I love the texture and the fact the ingredients do not include water or petroleum.

This balm feels so kind to put on my skin and its definitely feels like its helped lock in hydration and skin feels plumper and slightly less red! So far, loving it and keen to see how my skin looks using it long term.

I have just started using this balm over my moisturiser at night and I love how soft my skin is. I tried it under my makeup for a big night out and it was fantastic. My skin glowed.

Real skin. Real routines. No lab coat required.

11 / A small change in thinking

Your routine needs a better ending.

  • Keep your serum.
  • Keep your moisturiser.
  • The shelf can stay standing.

Just stop treating your barrier as an afterthought.

Lipids on top · water stays in the mortar
  1. Cleanse gently

Clean skin doesn't need to squeak.

  2. Hydrate if you need to

Your favourite hydrating serum or cream, if your skin likes it.

  3. Finish with lipids

Press a small amount of The Everywhere Balm over the top to soften and help slow water loss. Or use her on her own when your skin wants fewer opinions.

She gets to work. You get on with it.

12 / Before you ask

Keep your moisturiser.

Seriously. If your routine works, keep it.

We have exactly one quarrel with hydration: the idea that more of it always solves dryness.

Is it better than hyaluronic acid?
They do different jobs. Hyaluronic acid is a humectant that draws water into the skin's outer layer. The Everywhere Balm is a lipid-rich balm that softens skin and helps slow water loss. Use both: hyaluronic acid first, balm on top.
What if I've overdone my actives?
Pause whatever stings and give your skin a gentle, boring week. If it tolerates it, a thin layer of the balm can help it feel softer and more comfortable. If skin is broken, weeping or still burning after a few days, see your GP or pharmacist. The Everywhere Balm is a cosmetic, made for intact skin.
What does it actually do for my barrier?
It helps reduce water loss and supports barrier repair, which your skin does itself. It's a cosmetic, so we don't claim it treats any skin condition.
Is it for oily skin?
It can live on your dry areas only. Rich balms won't suit every face, so start small, especially if you're prone to congestion.
How is it different from a face cream?
It's waterless, concentrated and travels well beyond the face: lips, hands, cuticles, heels, anywhere that rubs, and external intimate skin. One tin covering several jobs.
